Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG) China Desk recently completed a business trip to China from 2 to 7 August 2026. The trip aimed to deepen the team’s understanding of China’s legal and business landscape and strengthen relationships with leading Chinese law firms and academia.
The itinerary covered engagements across Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenzhen, including the following activities:
i. MOU Signing Ceremony & Forums
A historic Memorandum of Understanding was signed between LHAG and Tianjin University Law School, the first of its kind between a Malaysian law firm and a Chinese university. The MOU establishes opportunities for LHAG Partners to serve as visiting lecturers, moot court coaches and thesis supervisors and for outstanding Tianjin University students to receive priority consideration for internship placements at LHAG.
The delegation also attended the China-Malaysia Cross-Border Legal Forum in Tianjin University, as well as the China-Malaysia Cross-Border Business Forum in Shenzhen, which comprised of two main sessions “Cross-Border Investment & Tax Practice Session” and “Cross-Border Dispute Resolution Practice Session”.
ii. Firm and Arbitral Institution Visits
Visits to leading Chinese law firms, including the JunHe LLP offices in Beijing and Shanghai, Zhonglun W&D in Tianjin, DeHeng Law offices in Shanghai, as well as to the Beijing Arbitral Commission and Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA).
iii. Engaging Chinese Businesses and Clients
The delegation visited China Construction Sixth Engineering Bureau Corp., Ltd. and China State Construction Overseas Co. Ltd. for focused discussions on cross-border legal issues. The delegation also established contact with Trident Capital Advisors (Hong Kong) and paid a courtesy visit to KPMG, a longstanding client of the Firm, at its Shanghai office.
