Bersih 3.0 Rally was held on 28.4.2012 organised by a coalition of non-governmental organisations that is called Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0). Following the Bersih 3.0 Rally, the Government of Malaysia commenced a civil action against the individual organisers claiming monetary compensation for damages to police vehicles. This was a first-of-its-kind civil suit by the Government of Malaysia against assembly organisers. Mr. Ang Hean Leng and Mr. Hoi Jack S’ng successfully defended one of the organisers, Dr. Wong Chin Huat, and also successfully counterclaimed the Government of Malaysia for wrongful arrest and detention. Dr. Wong was awarded damages and costs.
