Last Friday evening, Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill successfully conducted a webinar, which attracted close to 400 participants. During the one-and-a-half-hour event, our panel of five shed some light on the Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) that was implemented nationwide for a two-week period starting last Wednesday.
Partners Dato’ Nitin Nadkarni, Adlin Abdul Majid, Andrew Chiew Ean Vooi, Crystal Wong Wai Chin and Shariffullah Majeed tackled various legal and regulatory issues arising from the RMO and the impact of COVID-19 on businesses.
The session commenced with Adlin, from the firm’s Regulatory & Compliance Practice, providing an overview of the implementation of the RMO and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
Andrew Chiew, of the Banking and Insolvency Practice, then addressed the commercial impact of COVID-19, while Crystal Wong, who is with the International Arbitration Practice, discussed the operation of force majeure clauses in contracts in light of disruptions caused by the suspension of business operations and trade restrictions across the world.
Shariffullah, one of three partners with the Employment Practice, discussed various employment issues resulting from COVID-19.
The session was moderated by Dato’ Nitin of the Tax, SST & Customs Practice.
