Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill is pleased to share that we co-hosted a private wealth roundtable with Jersey Finance on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at our Kuala Lumpur office.

This marks our second collaboration with Jersey Finance on this topic — the first being held on 25 September 2024, just days after the launch of Malaysia’s Single Family Office (SFO) Tax Incentive Scheme. Nearly a year on, the roundtable served as a timely opportunity to take stock of the regime’s progress and its positioning within the regional wealth landscape.

The session began with a presentation by Chris Toh Pei Roo, our Partner from the Tax, Customs & Trade and Succession, Trusts, Estate Planning & Private Wealth Practice Groups, who provided an overview of Malaysia’s Single Family Office (SFO) tax incentive scheme and key developments since its inception.

This was followed by Farah Deba Mohamed Sofian, Chair of STEP Malaysia, who shared compelling perspectives on why Malaysia is increasingly viewed as a preferred destination for high-net-worth individuals across Asia seeking to establish family offices.

Yiow Chong Tan, Director for Southeast Asia at Jersey Finance, then offered a comparative overview of the SFO incentive schemes in Malaysia and Singapore, highlighting key differences in structure, implementation, and policy direction.

The discussion also explored how offshore trusts and foundations can enhance family office structures — particularly in providing tax neutrality, asset protection, and confidentiality, all while remaining compliant with Malaysia’s legal and regulatory framework.

The session concluded with an engaging roundtable and Q&A session, followed by a networking lunch that fostered open dialogue on Malaysia’s evolving role as a private wealth hub.
