Crystal Wong Wai Chin, a partner with the Energy, Infrastructure & Projects and International Arbitration Practice at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, has been appointed as a panel arbitrator of the Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei (CAA), with the approval of the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China. Established in 1955, the CAA is the leading arbitral institution in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. The CAA Panel of Arbitrators comprises both local and international judges, prosecutors, attorneys and law professors with expertise in international arbitration.
This appointment is especially meaningful for Crystal and the firm as recognition of Crystal’s growing experience in and contributions to Belt and Road Initiative-related dispute resolution. Aided by her fluency in English and Mandarin and her first-hand understanding of Chinese corporate and social culture, Crystal is regularly instructed to advise and represent Chinese State-Owned Enterprises in relation to their investments under the Belt and Road Initiative in Malaysia. This experience has enabled Crystal to be a key driver of the development of the firm’s China Desk.
Apart from her active practice in arbitration as counsel, Crystal has sat as an arbitrator in both AIAC and SIAC arbitrations, including in expedited proceedings.
